About Wildling Books

Children's Books About Emotions & Big Feelings | Gentle Tools for Emotional Intelligence & Regulation

Hi, I’m Rebekah (Bex) Lipp, founder of Wildling Books, mum to three beautiful wildlings, and someone who has walked through some very dark emotional storms.

In my early twenties, I found myself in crisis—grappling with anxiety, depression, self-harm, body dysmorphia, and had been given a list of diagnoses. Those years were incredibly hard, but they became the turning point that changed everything. Through two intensive years of Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) and Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT), I slowly learned to name my emotions, feel them without fear, and release them in healthy ways. For the first time, I understood that emotions aren’t enemies—they’re messengers. And once I could hear them, I could build a life worth living.

That personal journey is the heartbeat of Wildling Books.

Why We Started

I saw a real gap: the powerful tools and language I gained through therapy weren’t reaching parents, teachers, or children before crisis hit. I wanted to give little ones (and their grown-ups) the gentle, beautiful resources I wish I’d had—stories that normalise every feeling, teach emotional literacy, and show safe ways to move through big emotions like sadness, anger, fear, shame, and anxiety.

So in 2018, I joined forces with the incredibly talented illustrator Craig Phillips. Together we created the Aroha series, starting with Aroha’s Way, and went on to build a whole world of books—from the bestselling How Do I Feel? emotions dictionary to Let It Go (emotions are energy in motion) and beyond. Every book is crafted with love, reviewed by mental health and parenting experts, and with dyslexia-friendly font so every child can connect.

Our Gentle Parenting Philosophy

At Wildling Books, we believe every child has genius within them. When we approach parenting (and teaching) from a place of compassion, kindness, and curiosity, we help our wildlings thrive—not despite their big feelings, but because of the way we hold space for them.

I parent my own neurodivergent children with this same gentle lens, and it’s the same heart that flows through every story, card set, and bundle we create. We don’t dumb emotions down; we expand emotional literacy so kids can truly understand what they’re feeling, why it matters, and how to let it move through them safely.

What We Hope for Every Family

Wildling Books isn’t just about books—it’s about giving children (and parents) the tools to talk about feelings openly, to feel seen and supported, and to grow into emotionally strong, resilient humans who know it’s okay to feel everything.

If you’re here, chances are you already care deeply about this. Thank you for choosing to raise emotionally aware wildlings. We’re so grateful to be on this journey with you.
